Teresa Perez Ceccon
Dance Artist | Educator | Choreographer
Manhattan-born and Queens-raised by parents from Puerto Rico, music and dance have been in my blood since childhood, especially Latin and jazz styles. I was that girl who danced, sang and played instruments at a young age… and managed to never grow out of it. Known by many as “Te” (rhymes with tea), I have been in the New York dance world as an artist, educator and choreographer for over 30 years.
I specialize in the Simonson Technique, an approach to movement that immediately transformed my dance experience when I was first exposed to it as a student at Queens College. That’s because Simonson empowers dancers — in any genre and level — to reach their potential in an expressive way that is healthy for the body and mind.
I became certified in the Simonson Technique in 1997 and started teaching at the legendary Dance Space in downtown NYC. Soon after, I began a years-long apprenticeship with Lynn Simonson to teach her groundbreaking teacher’s course, now known as the Simonson Method of Teacher Training (SMTT). Today I am as dedicated as ever to sharing Simonson and building community through a variety of programs in studios, universities and performances in the US and abroad — in person and online.
Whether you are an experienced dancer or a beginner, my classes and workshops can help enrich your dance journey. If you are a teacher, inquire about the SMTT, designed to expand your teacher’s toolbox.
